Vestibular Therapy consists of the assessment and treatment for vertigo, dizziness, balance disorders and inner ear dysfunctions. Depending on the condition, treatment can include the repositioning maneuver (formerly called the Epply Maneuver) or Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy.

In addition to their nursing education and practice, our counsellor/mental health clinician has completed graduate social work education with extensive clinical supervision, consultation and practicum experience. They have been practicing clinical social work within the mental health counselling field for several years. Clinical social work practice means that our counsellor/mental health clinician professionally applies social work theory and methods of treatment towards addressing psychosocial, emotional and mental concerns, challenges, and/or conditions and impairments to functioning and well-being. A social worker counsellor or clinician explores with people their personal issues with the intent of helping them resolve difficulties and experience meaningful growth and change. A strong relationship is formed and confidentiality is paramount.

Skylar graduated from UBC’s Master of Physical Therapy - North in the fall of 2022. Her journey through the program was unique as the majority of her training occurred in Northern and Rural regions of British Columbia. She has also completed the Diploma of Advanced Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy Level 1. Prior to her Masters, Skylar completed her Bachelor of Human Kinetics at UBC-Okanagan. Skylar highly values decolonizing health care and providing culturally safe care - she strives to practice the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action #18-24 in the Sun City Clinic when pertinent.

Skylar moved to Kelowna in 2014 from Ottawa, Ontario. During her time in Kelowna, Skylar has been an avid volunteer, especially in the sport sector. Skylar has been involved in the Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Council of BC, KidSport Kelowna and PacificSport Okanagan since 2015, as well as an athletics coach with the Okanagan Athletics Club since 2014. Her experience in the local sport community has contributed to her philosophy of being active for life, which further influences her therapy delivery. Skylar is keen to encourage holistic rehabilitation through strong interprofessional communication, evidence based practice, along with exercise prescription, manual therapy and orthopaedic approaches to injuries. Her goal lies in supporting her client’s return to baseline activity, or help in learning to navigate a new baseline.

In her free time, Skylar enjoys listening to true crime podcasts, cycling, hiking, camping, and chasing sunsets on the beautiful Syilx territory. Allie graduated from the Northern cohort of UBC ’s Master of Physical Therapy program in the fall of 2023. Being a part of the Northern cohort in Prince George allowed Allie to have a unique experience in Northern and rural healthcare practice from all corners of the province. After completing her Honours Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics degree at the University of Ottawa, Allie set her sights on physiotherapy school and returning to her home province of BC. Allie was born in Chilliwack, BC but moved with her family in 2008 to Ottawa, ON. During her time in Ottawa, Allie became a highly competitive athlete through her training in Scottish highland dancing. Her commitment to her craft granted her many successes including being a two-time national champion (2013, 2023) and placing top 3 in the world (2013). Allie still dances competitively while also teaching highland dance to the younger generation. Allie’s experience in this community has contributed to her beliefs in the importance of physical activity throughout childhood and adolescence. Allie likes to place emphasis on exercise for rehabilitation in her practice and encourages every one of her patients to be active throughout the lifespan, but also believes in the role of manual therapy. Although Allie has experience working with all ages and populations, she has a keen interest in paediatrics. Chris Burton is a practicing Kinesiologist and new-comer to SunCity Physiotherapy. Chris was born in Toronto, Ontario, but spent his later childhood and teenage years in Alberta where he got his degree in Kinesiology from the University of Calgary in 2003. Later that year he moved to the Okanagan where he began to practice as a Kinesiologist. He began his kinesiology career working in the field of rehabilitation, but he has also worked as a Personal Trainer in Kelowna, Calgary, and Toronto areas . Chris is passionate about what he does professionally and has furthered his knowledge and skill set to improve his ability to assist his clientele through continuing education and in particular through training with the CHEK institute, where he learned an integrative approach of biomechanical assessment, exercise prescription, and nutrition and lifestyle coaching. Louise’s passion for self-wellness is a long-standing core value. When she recognized a desire to support others in their wellness, Louise felt drawn to a career in health care and acquired a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops. After practicing community health nursing in a loving Secwepemc community, Louise obtained a Master of Social work, with a clinical practice focus, at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna. This enabled Louise, as a dually-registered and regulated health professional, to provide counselling informed by her nursing and clinical social work education.

Louise has practiced as a mental health clinician and counsellor, in both nursing and social work roles, in various community settings throughout BC’s Interior. This has informed her specialization in mental health; she can support clients who have a formal mental health diagnosis and clients who do not but are experiencing mental and/or emotional health concerns. Louise can perform mental health assessment; give a clinical impression; and provide and carry out a plan for treatment including monitoring of symptoms or experiences; support in maintaining stability or wellness; interdisciplinary collaborative care (with client’s consent); provision of resources, education, supported skill building and therapeutic processes.

Tracey has been practicing physiotherapy for almost 30 years since graduating from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. She holds a Post Graduate Science Degree in Physiotherapy and an Undergraduate degree in Kinesiology with a major in sports medicine. Tracey has worked with a variety of sports teams including soccer, football, rugby and dragon boating. She worked with the Workers’ Compensation system for many years and a has vast experience of supporting those with chronic pain. She has also worked with older adults for many years and has a strong focus in senior care and fall prevention. She has taken further courses in fostering positive mental health and incorporates this into her practice. Robert has been with the Sun City team since moving to Kelowna from Alberta in 2015. Growing up in Yellowknife, he was lured to the Okanagan by the fruit trees, beaches, and year-round active lifestyle. He has degrees in Physical Therapy and Kinesiology from the University of Alberta in Edmonton.

Robert practices IMS and acupuncture techniques that are complimented with manual therapy and exercise programs. Robert also treats dizziness and vertigo resulting from vestibular dysfunction.

Jon was born in Ontario and moved to Lake Country in 1996. From a young age he was interested in physical activity, and grew up playing soccer and hockey. Jon further developed his passion for competition when he attended nationals for soccer with Team B.C. He studied locally at UBCO, where he took his bachelor’s of Human Kinetics. During his undergrad, he spent some time with the Sun City Physiotherapy in Lake Country which inspired him to pursue a career in Physiotherapy. Jon completed his Masters in Physical Therapy at the University of British Columbia Vancouver Campus, and has returned home to the Okanagan to join the Sun City Physiotherapy team. He’s now exchanged his soccer boots and hockey skates for golf clubs and enjoys playing many of the courses in the area. Jay is a graduate of the University of British Columbia’s School of Rehabilitation Medicine class of 1994. He spent five years working in the United States in various Sports and Orthopaedic settings, and as a member of Health Volunteers Overseas taught and practiced Physiotherapy in South Africa and the West Indies during the mid- to late nineties.

In 1999 he moved to Kelowna to work in private practice as well as volunteer as the Okanagan Director for the Physiotherapy Association of BC. In 2001 he became a co-owner of Sun City Physiotherapy, where he heads up the Glenmore clinic location. Jay believes strongly in evidence-based practice and continuing education. He has advanced training in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy as well as assessing and treating golf related injuries. In 2002 he completed his certificate in Sport Physiotherapy. He is certified in both Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) and Anatomical Acupuncture and has been practicing the later for over 15 years.

Madison Wood is a Registered Dietitian dedicated to providing compassionate, individualized nutrition care for the past 8 years.

She completed her studies at Western University in London, Ontario followed by post-graduate studies at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine to become a Registered Dietitian.

Madison is here to support you in optimizing your health and meeting any nutrition goals you have. On a more personal note, Madison is passionate about global health equity, and has most recently volunteered in Mombasa, Kenya with International Medical Aid. She has also been a UBC Dietetics program interviewer for the past three years for their undergraduate and masters programs. She is currently on the UBC Dietetics Curriculum Advisory Committee for a two-year cycle.
